of course there is an alternative to start chrome with switch say chrome --max-web-media-player-count=500 but most of users wont know how to use switch
Currently it is very unlikely you are having more than 40 web media players in the same page as it will use a lot of resources in the client.
We are working on providing speacker detection in server side so you can create only a few webmedia players for the people actively speaking. This feature will be part of an OpenVidu commercial edition.
