Recording service offloading

Hi,
The composed recording currently takes place at the pro node and not the media node, is there a way to offload the recording to the media node.
If no, is there a way to separate the recording service or the docker container to a 3rd server where we can scale it horizontally.

And if both above are no, is there a way to make composed recordings via post processing of individual recordings without me making an extra server and using the available ffmpeg in the pro or media node itself

Hello @Sachin,

We are working on providing a technical solution to this limitation. We plan to have it available in 3/4 weeks (2.16 version).

Ok thanks for the reply @micael.gallego , but is the third point doable? post processing via the available ffmpeg at the media or pro node?

Yes, you can do it. Some OpenVidu users are doing it. Just record individual videos and then merge them using ffmpeg. Look around the forum looking for some scripts shared by the community.

Ok, thanks for the reply

Hi @micael.gallego is there any update about timeline of 2.16 release?

We are with the final details.

It will be released during the week.

Regards

Thank you for the update

Hi @micael.gallego is there a beta release we can test, and is the release date confirmed? we are dependent on the offloading thing

Hello @Sachin,

Finally COMPOSED recording on media node won’t be available in 2.16 version.

It will be available on 2.17 to be released soon after 2.16.

Sorry for the inconveniences.

Regards

@micael.gallego Ok no worry’s, but will the recording module for composed recording be separated from the pro node and able to scale horizontally in the 2.16 version?

In 2.16 version COMPOSED recording will still in master node.

But the next thing we will implement is the horizontal scaling of COMPOSED recording and plan to release 2.17 just a few week from now.
