Opus DTX & VAD with kms

Version : KMS 6.13
OS : Ubuntu 18
Configuration : Composite / SFU

Hello,

Got some questions related to DTX support for opus codec …

Does Opus codec support dtx in kurento media server, mainly for sfu and mcu ?

Is there any server side VAD (voice activity detection) present at kurento media server and how to use the same ?

Thanks,
Nagaraju Samudrala.

Hi, Kurento does not support DTX. However, maybe you can still enable it, if the receivers will support decoding. However I guess this will cause lots of timestamp discontinuity warnings in the KMS logs.

Kurento works as a media router, so there is no analysis of the media for VAD. What you can do is write a GStreamer plugin that processes the audio, and insert it into the Kurento Pipeline by using the GStreamerFilter feature (which is exposed by Openvidu)

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the information.
Your inputs answer the question for SFU.
Is the same true in case of composite mixer (mcu) as well ?

Thanks,

OpenVidu is not designed to use MCU at the moment.

Thanks micael for the info.
